PRINCESS (1959) To the bottom
She doesn't need anyone to "light her fire", she is the fire; free of the cauldron, the crucible. She is an inferno-the vigor of maiden Africa!
Claude Clark does not remember how this inflamed image came into his psyche, but she has created while he was struggling on the way to understanding non-objective art. the restless spirit in princess is a part of that research.
Princess was painted in 1959, but an understanding of non-objective art has still two years away. He found that the format of all was similar, but the difference has in the execution of the subject matter. so he summed up his research in a painting such as black orchid in 1961.
Clark said: "Out of the crucible and African psyche came the lady called princess; I created her, but she has her own excuse for being."
